Oh, hey ya'll

The initial move to the Big Apple from the Bluegrass wasn't easy. Of course there was the excitement of moving to the big city and endless possibilities, but one can't help but miss their roots from time to time. As a transplant you trade in the quiet for racket, the sassy for the rude, the women for...well let's just say it's not the same. Until recently I was overjoyed when I would meet a fellow southerner in New York, it wasn't a frequent occurrence, until now. Social networks such as Facebook and Meetup are now the breeding grounds for individuals to set up events and parties with other like minded users. From alumni to merely general interest, there is a surprisingly large amount of choices. So by joining the University of Kentucky Alumni of NYC, SEC in NYC, and Southerners of NYC, I was given the ability to meet up with people from below the Mason Dixon and swap stories, network and have a whiskey. Hearing those accents, spotting some "Bama Bangs", collective eyes glued to a college football game, it makes NYC almost feel like home.
